Women Engineers offer inspiration to Future Generations

Cobham Aerospace Connectivity celebrates International Women in Engineering day

23 June 2020, Cobham Aerospace Connectivity is celebrating International Women in Engineering Day 2020 (#INWED20).  The annual event, now in its seventh year, is an awareness campaign, which raises the profile of women in engineering across the globe focusing attention on the amazing career opportunities available to females in this exciting industry. INWED this year is leading with the theme ‘Shape the World’.

To celebrate the importance of the day and to inspire future generations, women engineers from across the business have shared this inspirational video on how they are helping to shape the world with Cobham and why they selected engineering as their chosen career.

Speaking on the importance of INWED, Jennifer Johnson, Electrical Engineer at Cobham Aerospace Connectivity said, ‘I think that too often young girls in school are taught to feel that they are not good at math or science and that it’s the only way to become an engineer and work in a technical field. That is simply not true, young girls should be encouraged to become engineers. As a society, we need to do better, to encourage young women to go out and be whatever they want to be. You can be an engineer if you want to be.’

INWED was originally established as a national celebration in Great Britain by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) in 2015. Within a short time, the day grew in popularity and its appeal spread across the globe, and in 2016 INWED was awarded UNESCO patronage for the first time. INWED is celebrated by a diverse range of people including schools, organisations, STEM campaigners, universities and politicians. INWED 2020 sponsors include Boeing, Dialog Semiconductor, ECITB, GCHQ, Institute of Refrigeration, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, OPITO, Royal Air Force and Wiley.
